Sustainable NSP was kick-started by a small group of local residents back in 2017, who wanted to make positive change in light of a fast-changing climate and environmental landscape.
Since that very first meeting, we’ve worked hard to engage the local community with a number of events and campaigns, all aimed at creating a more resilient future.
From promoting more sustainable travel through the local bus service, promoting the installation of solar panels through the Green Streets project, encouraging the reduction of single-use plastics and the upcycling of clothes, there’s been plenty to get involved with.
Key highlights include our Green Doors event back in 2020, where several houses in and around NSP and Laverton were open to people to visit and find out more about their sustainable features (for example, solar powers and heat pumps), while we were also thrilled to join forces with Rode and Beckington in 2022 and 2023 to host the Big Green Weekend.
Today, our regular Repair Café and village litter picks remain popular events, and we look forward to re-engaging the community in new ways for 2026 and beyond.
Our aims
When Sustainable NSP was set up in 2017, our collective aims were to:

• To promote awareness and actions to counter threats to the environment from climate change and other related matters in the community of Norton St Philip
• To promote a clean community through actively picking up litter
• To promote area of wilding, the sowing of wild flowers and other activities that increase biodiversity
• To promote the cause of recycling and the reduction of single use plastics
• To promote sustainability matters in local council activity and plans.
• To lobby retailers, local and national government to adopt good environmental practice
• To encourage individual and community projects for the microgeneration of energy
As with any mission, these aims are just an outline of the wider picture – so, if you have some of your own ideas you’d like to share, get in touch!
